DEAR SOS: I’m hoping you can get the recipe for the cabbage soup served at the Lyons English Grill in Palm Springs.

DEAR MRS. DIGANGE: The Grill’s chef, Ernie Carino, was flattered that you asked. Canned tomato juice, cream of tomato soup and ground beef make this recipe so easy, a can’t-cook cook will have no trouble getting the soup just right.
Lyons English Grill Cabbage Soup
Active Work Time: 20 minutes * Total Preparation Time: 1 hour
1/2 to 3/4 pound ground beef
1 onion, sliced
2 cups chicken or beef broth
3 cups tomato juice
1 (11-ounce) can cream of tomato soup
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon sugar
5 to 6 cups shredded or diced cabbage
Salt, pepper
* Saute ground beef in large pot over medium-high heat until browned, 5 minutes. Add onion and cook until translucent, 5 minutes. Add broth, tomato juice, tomato soup, garlic powder, sugar, cabbage and salt and pepper to taste. Bring to a boil. Cover and simmer until cabbage is very tender, about 20 to 30 minutes.
8 servings. Each serving: 121 calories; 716 mg sodium; 16 mg cholesterol; 5 grams fat; 12 grams carbohydrates; 7 grams protein; 0.83 gram fiber.
