Jennifer Parilla of Lake Forest will represent the United States in the inaugural trampoline competition at the 2000 Olympics in Sydney.
Parilla, 18, was selected based on her performance at the Trampoline and Tumbling World Championships last week in Sun City, South Africa. Parilla was the ninth woman and the only American chosen. Twelve men and 12 women will compete in the trampoline event, which debuts as a medal sport in the gymnastics program.
VOLLEYBALL
Cira Wright, a senior outside hitter at Kennedy High, has committed to attend UCLA, Kennedy Athletic Director Janet Bernardi said.
Wright was an all-Empire League selection in 1998.
WOMEN’S SOCCER
UC Irvine goalie Allison Merrick was named Big West player of the week for women’s soccer.
Merrick, a junior transfer from UC Santa Barbara, made nine saves in a 1-1 tie with North Texas on Friday. She had five saves in a 2-1 victory over Utah State Sunday.
