OXNARD — An armed Oxnard parolee was arrested Thursday after attempting to rob a family friend and then barricading himself inside his house for three hours before surrendering, authorities said.
Juan Manuel Flores, 35, was taken into custody around noon after a standoff with police in the 100 block of Dolores Court, according to Oxnard police. He remained jailed Thursday night in lieu of $55,000 bail.
The incident started about 9 a.m. when Flores, who was armed with a handgun, allegedly tried to rob his cousin’s boyfriend while the couple were at Flores’ house, authorities said.
Flores’ cousin, 24-year-old Francelia Lomeli, ran to a nearby pay phone and called police. When officers arrived, Flores was inside the home with his aunt and her caretaker, authorities said. He allowed the two to leave about 30 minutes later.
