* Ford Motor Co. and General Motors Corp. both said they will require parts suppliers to become more environmentally friendly in the next few years. The two auto makers said they want all suppliers to conform to the international ISO 14001 standard, under which independent auditors evaluate processes to measure energy use, waste disposal, water treatment, recycling and air pollution. Ford, the first auto maker to certify all its plants worldwide under the standards, will require suppliers to have at least one manufacturing site meet ISO 14001 by the end of 2001, and all manufacturing sites shipping products to Ford conform by July 1, 2003.
