COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Irvine Falls to Northridge

Freshman Lauren Nichols had 18 kills and a career-best 20 digs for UC Irvine, but the Anteaters could not hold off Cal State Northridge in women’s volleyball Tuesday, losing 15-7, 14-16, 15-12, 15-9 in a nonconference match. The visiting Matadors (1-0) were led by Laura Szymanski, who had 21 kills.

Erika Denison and Larissa Carter each had 14 kills for UCI (4-1).

In another nonconference women’s volleyball match:

Concordia 3, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps 1--Jaime Gast had 10 kills as the visiting Eagles (4-2) won, 15-10, 15-5, 15-17, 15-3. The match was the season opener for the Athenas.
