Marjorie M. Fitzsimmons; Retired Secretary

Ventura resident Marjorie Maxine Fitzsimmons died Wednesday, after a brief illness. She was 81.
Fitzsimmons was born Jan. 7, 1918, in Lookeba, Okla. She moved with her family to Oxnard when she was a young girl and graduated from Oxnard Union High School in 1936. That year she married Whitney Fitzsimmons.
For many years, Fitzsimmons worked as an executive secretary at Ventura College, where she retired in 1978.
Her family described Fitzsimmons as a dedicated wife and mother. A son, Patrick George Fitzsimmons, died Aug. 24, 1970.
Fitzsimmons is survived by her husband; sons Craig Fitzsimmons of San Antonio, and Tim Fitzsimmons of Quito, Ecuador; a brother, Jack Darrah of Fresno; five grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
A visitation will be held from noon to 5 p.m. today at Ted Mayr Funeral Home in Ventura and a graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Ivy Lawn Memorial Cemetery in Ventura.
