The dirt field that is now La Bonita Park will one day be gone to make room for plush green grass, four lighted softball diamonds, a skate park and a garden--a dream come true for many families in the city. After a six-hour special hearing, the City Council on Wednesday unanimously approved the $2-million concept plan that would provide a safe, alternative recreation center for children and alleviate the shortage of field space for youth sports.
In its motion, the council requested that field lights go off by 9 p.m., that field usage be restricted to youth sports, and that the proposed heritage museum would have to relocate.
