VAN NUYS — Police said Wednesday they are seeking other possible victims of a woman arrested last weekend on suspicion of bilking a Van Nuys woman out of $12,000.
The suspect, 44-year-old Barbara Adams, is a Tarot card and palm reader who goes by the name Fatima Marie. She was arrested Saturday and released on $75,000 bail, according to the Los Angeles Police Department’s Van Nuys Division.
Adams, who operates her business at 7301 Sepulveda Blvd., convinced Maria Ramirez that a curse had been put on her family, said Det. Debbie Potter. Adams told Ramirez “there needs to be an exchange of money or metal” to lift the curse, Potter said.
Adams then used department store credit accounts opened by Ramirez to obtain large amounts of jewelry and cash, Potter said.
Adams could not be reached for comment.
Police believe others may have been swindled in a similar way. Anyone with additional information can contact the Van Nuys Division at (818) 756-8343.
