Wolverines Go Deep to Win, 12-8

Harvard-Westlake High used goals by five players in the third quarter to defeat San Clemente, 12-8, Wednesday in a Southern Section Division I quarterfinal at Saddleback College.
Brian Ault scored three goals for the Wolverines (21-5), while Mike Gross, Eric Townsend and Ted Zepfel each had two goals.
Harvard-Westlake turned a 4-3 halftime edge into a 9-4 advantage with goals by Ault, Gross, Townsend, Zepfel and Marty Mathies in the third quarter.
Harvard-Westlake beat San Clemente for the third time in four games and moved into the semifinals Saturday.
Harvard-Westlake, Mission League champion, took a 2-0 first-quarter lead and scored two more times in the second quarter before the Tritons rallied.
La Canada 12, Whittier 4--Devin McIntire scored three of his four goals in the first quarter and the top-seeded Spartans won a Division III quarterfinal game at Whittier College.
Ben Jorgensen also had four goals for La Canada (24-3), which led, 7-3, at halftime.
Lloyd Masson had five saves.
