Before breaking ground in Dana Point Harbor for the 32,000-square-foot Ocean Education Center next fall, the Orange County Marine Institute plans on raising two-thirds of the $16.5 million it will take to build the facility.
With $3 million in the bank--$1.5 million of which came from a state grant--the institute will spend the next year trying to come up with an additional $8 million.
Institute President Stan Cummings hopes to draw one-third of the funding from individuals, one-third from government sources and the remainder from large corporations.
