Bagging Some Tips

Regarding “Learning to Cope With the Lost Luggage Blues” (Travel Insider, Oct. 17):
I keep a list in my computer of everything I pack and revise it for each trip. I carry a backpack containing camera and film, a health kit, reading material and an extra shirt, underwear and sleeping T-shirt in case my luggage does not arrive. It makes life simpler--fewer decisions. A copy of the list remains at home, and one stays in the backpack.

Here’s a suggestion for dealing with lost luggage: Before your next trip, take individual photos of all your luggage. Bring two copies of the photos with you on your trip. Keep them with your travel documents; don’t pack them in your suitcase. If the luggage is lost, include the appropriate photo when you complete the lost-luggage claim form.
I learned this the hard way. The last time an airline lost my luggage, I couldn’t correlate the suitcase type with terms used to describe it on the claim form.
