Fax Poll Campaign a Trap for Egoism
I was one of those many millions who received a fax from 21st Century Faxes, but it was obvious something was wrong with this “poll” [“Faxed Gun-Control Surveys Make It Costly to Contribute Your 2 Cents,” Personal Finance, Oct. 17].
Not only was it crudely designed, but simplistically worded, appealing to merest hysteria, not reflection. Our “issue” is not the outlawing of handguns, but the regulation of their sale (and resale).
Furthermore, anyone knows a 900 line costs! I tried faxing my “vote,” but 25 tries in four days to a non-answering line suggested not only a scam but a bogus setup. It cost me nothing to hear a non-answering phone line ring. “Making your voice heard” is a temptation and trap for petty egoism.
