El Dorado pounded the ball on the ground in the first half en route to a 30-14 victory over Century Friday at Valencia High.
Running back Roger Guydon finished with three touchdowns--all in the first half--and 148 yards in 17 carries. He gained 122 yards in the first half.
“We ran the ball very effectively tonight, and our line did a great job opening up some big holes,” El Dorado Coach Rick Jones said.
The Golden Hawks took a 20-0 lead on Guydon’s three touchdowns: runs of 11, 53 and five yards.
Guydon’s third touchdown was set up when Greg Reese returned a punt 60 yards.
The Golden Hawks made it 23-0 on a 39-yard field goal by Brian Zurhellen.
After a scoreless third quarter, El Dorado stretched the lead to 30-0 when Danny Pierro scored from three yards.
The Centurions scored with 5:24 remaining in the game on running back Fortino Rivera’s nine-yard run.
They struck again three minutes later when quarterback Giovanni Alcaraz connected with Joel Mijares for a 48-yard touchdown pass. Alcaraz hit Carlos Castellanos for the two point conversion to make the score 30-14.
El Dorado will play in the first round of the Southern Section playoffs next week as the third-place team from the league.
