The Planning Commission will decide Wednesday whether to amend a 30-day hotel/motel ordinance that was passed in August 1996.
The ordinance targeted long-term hotel residents who were essentially living at area hotels and involved in criminal conduct. It limited their stay to no more than 30 days. City officials say the ordinance has dramatically improved safety and quality of life in areas particularly around the hotel corridor.
But the Neighborhood Improvement Task Force, a group comprising law enforcement, health inspectors and other city leaders, has noticed some hotels/motels are allowing people to check out for one day but leave their belongings in the room and come back the next day.
The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. in City Council Chambers, 6650 Beach Blvd.
