Nearly 200 houses ranging in price from $90,000 to $150,000 are expected to go on sale the first week of August at a new development being built in east Oxnard.
Calls from eager home shoppers have already started pouring in, said Henry Casillas, a representative of Community Dynamics, which is building the El Paseo development with Catellus Residential.
The development will be located off Latigo Avenue between Aviation Drive and Camino del Sol in Oxnard.
There will be 1,020-square-foot, two-bedroom homes priced at $89,950, and 1,450-square-foot four-bedroom homes that will cost $149,950, Casillas said.
The two-story stucco homes will have front and back yards and garages.
The interiors will be made up of large loft-style open spaces, Casillas said.
Community Dynamics representatives will meet with interested home buyers from 7 to 8:30 p.m. July 15, 22 and 29 at the Oxnard Performing Arts Center, 800 Hobson Way.
Next week, prospective home buyers will also be able to call a special hotline at 289-9791 for more information.
City officials helped the project along in a big way by donating the land, about 20 acres, and waiving nearly $1 million in developer fees, said Oxnard Housing Director Sal Gonzalez.
Officials had already taken steps to offer affordable rentals because of a high demand for such housing, and they were eager to add affordable homes for sale too, Gonzalez said.
“This is right on target,” Gonzalez said. “We’re particularly proud that we took it one step further with [private] homeownership.”
