Microsoft Corp. said it has chosen McCann-Erickson in San Francisco to handle advertising for its flagship Windows family of operating systems. Billings were not disclosed. McCann replaces Portland, Ore.-based Wieden & Kennedy, which will continue to handle Microsoft’s brand and image advertising. Microsoft is expected to boost its Windows advertising later this year with the scheduled release of Windows 2000, the much-delayed upgrade to the high-end Windows NT system for desktop and server computers. According to Advertising Age, Microsoft spends more than $400 million annually on national print and broadcast advertising.
