DURANGO, Colo. — Luke Recker, Indiana University’s top scorer last season, was injured in a three-car accident that left one person dead and six injured.
Recker, 21, who announced in May that he would transfer to Arizona, was listed in fair condition Sunday at a Durango hospital after undergoing surgery for a severe head and neck lacerations.
Indianapolis television station WRTV reported that Recker’s girlfriend, Kelly Craig, 19, is paralyzed from the neck down. Her 17-year-old brother, Jason Craig, who suffered injuries to his head and spleen, is reported in critical condition.
The driver of the vehicle Recker was in, John Hollberg, 23, was killed in the crash, which occurred Saturday night on County Road 240.
Colorado State Trooper Mike McGuire said a pickup truck driven by Bob Hardwick of Durango drifted across the center line of the two-lane road at about 70 mph, sideswiped a pickup carrying 11 people and then hit Hollberg’s car head-on. Hardwick was arrested for drunk driving, the television station reported.
