The City Council on Tuesday unanimously approved plans to repair an Alicia Parkway slope damaged last year during El Nino storms. The city will advertise for bids to rebuild the slope, a portion of the street and sidewalk, and a bike lane at the intersection of Alicia and Town Center Drive. Federal funds filtered through Caltrans will cover 88.5% of the project’s $582,844 cost.
But the federal aid doesn’t end there. The city will be reimbursed for the entire cost--$187,726--of the emergency repair work done in March 1998 to stabilize Alicia Parkway.
Accepting money from the Federal Highway Administration meant approving an adjoining resolution stating that at least 10% of the subcontractors employed by the contractor be minorities or women.
The city is awaiting final approval from Caltrans. City staff expects to begin repair work by September.
