Panel Investigates Campaign Mailer

LA PUENTE — A state political watchdog agency is conducting an investigation of a 1997 campaign mailer that accused a City Council candidate of being involved in a scandal.
An investigator from the state Fair Political Practices Commission recently visited La Puente City Hall to examine city files related to the mailer, officials said.
The flier, distributed immediately before the 1997 election, accused Councilwoman Lola Storing of being connected to a political scandal and suggested that voters beware of her candidacy, said Mayor Sally Holguin Fallon.
The flier, sent by a group called the Citizens for a Better La Puente, endorsed Councilman Edward Rodarte and another candidate. Rodarte has denied any connection with the group.
