Mayor Urges Ban on Cheap Handguns

PASADENA — Mayor Chris Holden on Monday urged the City Council to ban the sale of cheap handguns known as Saturday night specials.
“We have to do everything we can think of to safeguard our communities from mindless gun violence that harms and kills our children,” Holden said.
The state Supreme Court recently let stand a ruling allowing West Hollywood to ban Saturday night specials.
Councilman Paul Little, who proposed a similar ban in 1996, endorsed the idea.
“Thanks to the city of West Hollywood, we can now outlaw these junk weapons,” Little said.
So far, 41 cities have banned the sale of the guns.
