Barclays Names BankAmerica Executive CEO

BankAmerica Corp. is left with only one member of its policy committee who doesn’t come from the old NationsBank Corp. after Barclays, Britain’s second-biggest bank, hired Michael O’Neill as its new chief executive. With O’Neill’s departure, Michael Murray, head of global corporate and investment banking, is the last executive from the former BankAmerica on the policy committee that runs the biggest U.S. bank, spokesman John Keane said. BankAmerica, now based in Charlotte, N.C., was created in September when it merged with NationsBank. O’Neill, 52, was the policy committee member overseeing BankAmerica’s principal investing and wealth management units, and he was chief financial officer of the former BankAmerica. O’Neill is Barclays’ first American CEO. Martin Taylor, Barclays’ former chief executive, resigned in November following losses at Barclays Capital, the investment banking unit.
