People who have taken two kinds of common antibiotics are less likely to suffer heart attacks, according to a study that bolsters the theory that infections may be an important cause of heart disease. In the study, published in the Chicago-based Journal of the American Medical Assn., two types of antibiotics--tetracyclines and quinolones--were associated with a lower risk of heart attack. Other antibiotics--penicillins, macrolides, sulfonamids and cephalosporins--were not.
