Arroyo Standing Tall in Middle for Bell-Jeff

Three weeks into the boys’ basketball season, it is clear 6-foot-6 center Carlos Arroyo of Bell-Jeff High can play the game.
He’s averaging 21.0 points, 18.4 rebounds and has 18 blocked shots. He also has taken more than 10 charges in five games.
“He’s the best defensively I’ve coached since Dana Jones [former North Hollywood center] ,” Coach Eli Essa said.
Arroyo, a senior, was forced to play junior varsity last season after transferring from Alhambra High. He has a knack for scoring on tip plays and even made two three-pointers in a loss to Notre Dame.
