Checklist: This Weekend

Things to do this weekend with your money:

Today:

Property taxes are due. Late payments will incur a penalty. If you haven’t mailed your payment already, you can drop it off at the relevant county office. Check your local phone directory for the address.

Saturday:

If your income will be the same or lower next year and you itemize your deductions, consider paying both halves of your property tax bill before Dec. 31. Doing so moves the deduction into the 1999 tax year.

Sunday:

Other ways to accelerate deductions if you itemize include making your January mortgage payment by Dec. 20 or paying any state estimated tax bill before year-end.
