Local businesses now face more stringent conditions--imposed to prevent irresponsible handling of alcohol--on the permit that allows them to sell and serve liquor.
Following a Planning Commission recommendation, the City Council recently amended San Clemente’s municipal code to require businesses that close for 90 days or more to obtain a new conditional-use permit in order to serve alcohol upon reopening.
In addition, business owners who apply for a new conditional-use permit to serve alcohol must ensure that all employees receive responsible-alcohol-serving training, which is offered by several companies through in-house programs and the Orange County Health Care Agency.
