The City Council is expected Tuesday to rename the rose garden at City Hall Park in honor of two former council members who helped to shape the park and the city.

The name change comes as the first official step in what could lead to the redesign of the rose garden. Council members are expected to rename the garden for Frank Schweitzer Sr. and Frank Schweitzer Jr..

But the council’s action on a redesign of the garden is less certain. Council members are expected to take more time to consider the Schweitzer family’s request to redesign the park into something more memorable than just a few rose bushes.
