A new development on Canon Drive sounds pretty exciting (Theater Notes, by Don Shirley, April 18). Where the Canon Theatre is looks soooo run down. Beverly Hills needs a little boost. It would only add beauty to such a wonderful street.
I have worked on Canon Drive for 15 years, and being able to walk and have lunch, sit outside and even see a movie once in a while, have an ice cream . . . that’s entertainment.

Good to read Don Shirley’s March 28 Theater Notes concerning the lack of long-running productions here in Los Angeles. Even better was reading that Mark Nichols was becoming general manager of the Shubert.
Several years back, I was fortunate to have observed him producing an Equity-waiver production at the then Main Stage in Studio City. I was struck by his total dedication to not only the show but to the “show-biz” aspect of mounting a play, from production design to the way he made sure the theater was in impeccable condition for both his players and audience. He was that perfect combination of a Joe Papp and Donald Trump: good taste, fine business savvy.
Perhaps Mark Nichols is the dude to help turn the Shubert around. Best of luck to him.
