WASHINGTON — Vice President Al Gore’s 2000 campaign has appointed a campaign pro with local Washington connections as its political director.
Donna Brazile, chief of staff and press secretary for Delegate Eleanor Holmes Norton of the District of Columbia, was national field director for Rep. Richard A. Gephardt’s 1988 presidential campaign. She also works as a consultant to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.
She will be responsible for political outreach efforts.
Gore also has hired a veteran strategist to be deputy campaign manager. Stacie Spector, deputy communications director at the White House, will move over to the Gore campaign as the lead aide to respond to accusations from opponents.
Spector was deputy communications director of the 1996 Clinton-Gore campaign.
