A 61-year-old man was fatally injured Friday when his stepson attacked him with a pickax at the family’s home in Lake Forest, police said.
Lt. Hector Rivera of the Orange County Sheriff’s Department said the stepson, 33, had been staying with his mother and stepfather for the past week at their home on Islamare Lane and became enraged when they asked him to leave.
The younger man left Friday but called at 6:45 p.m., threatening the older couple, Rivera said.
He then forced his way into the house, Rivera said, and attacked his stepfather, who was seated on a couch, while his mother ran outside.
Neighbors called police, Rivera said, but the younger man had already fled when officers arrived.
He later surrendered to police in Anaheim at 9 p.m., Rivera said. His stepfather was dead at the scene.
The identities of the family members had not been released late Friday, and no further details were available.
