A man was killed Thursday morning in a chain reaction accident at a busy North Hollywood intersection.
According to LAPD Det. Tom Whetzel, the accident happened about 7 a.m. when a 1989 white Toyota Camry traveling southbound into the intersection of Oxnard Street and Colfax Avenue smashed into the back of a white 1990 Toyota Supra, going westbound. The collision sent the Supra into another car, a 1993 Gray Ford Probe, said Whetzel.
The driver of the Probe was ejected from his car and died at the scene, Whetzel said.
Police did not release the name or age of the victim pending notification of relatives. They also did not release the names on any others involved.
The driver of the Supra, a 33-year-old man, and his passenger, a 3-year-old girl, were taken to Northridge Hospital Medical Center, where a hospital spokesman said the child was released without injuries and the man was in fair condition with a spinal fracture.
Investigators believe the accident occured when one car ran a red light. But Whetzel said police have been unable to figure out which car failed to stop, partly because of a lack of witnesses.
Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the accident to call (818) 756-8391.
Whetzel said the man who died was not wearing his seat belt.
“If he did, he’d might be alive right now,” Whetzel said.
