Volunteers to Train in Post-Trauma Support

A training class for volunteers who want to help others in distress following crimes or other traumatic events will begin Thursday at Western Medical Center-Santa Ana.
The 3-year-old Orange County chapter of the national Trauma Intervention Program seeks volunteers, especially from North County.
“The volunteer citizens will provide basic emotional support, practical assistance and referral to professionals,” said Wayne Fortin, who founded the national intervention program in 1985.
“This support is very important to victims, but often sheriff’s deputies and firefighters don’t have the time to provide it.”
TIP volunteers are called to the scene by police, deputies, firefighters or hospital workers.
