Michael Simpson
Brethren Christian, Sophomore; Wrestling
Simpson won at 103 pounds in the Southern Section Masters meet by beating Steve Ybarra of Arroyo Grande, 6-5, in the final. Simpson also posted a convincing victory in the semifinals, winning by a technical fall over Tony Perez of Santa Ana, who was the 103-pound runner-up at state last year.
Ryan Coiner/Soccer/Forward
* Santa Margarita, senior. Scored three goals in two playoff victories, including two in 3-0 defeat of Lakewood Artesia in the quarterfinals.
Joe Ortiz/Basketball/Guard
* Calvary Chapel, senior. Averaged 28 points in two playoff victories to help the Eagles reach the Division IV-AA final. He scored 32 points in a 79-70 victory over Pasadena Marshall in the semifinals.
Steve Scoggin/Basketball/Guard
* Mater Dei, sophomore. Scored 24 points to help Mater Dei defeat third-seeded Riverside Arlington, 71-63, in Division I-A quarterfinals.
