VENTURA — Fireworks or a flare gun ignited a roof fire that caused $1.5 million damage to an east Ventura condominium community last week, investigators said Thursday.
The July 23 fire at Villa Ventura on Shenandoah Street injured three people, destroyed seven units and displaced more than a dozen residents.
Jeff Wiens, a Ventura Fire Department investigator, said an unidentified person threw lit fireworks or fired a flare gun at a wood shake roof over a four-unit condominium building at 4998 Shenandoah St.
The condominiums face Marion Canon Park.
Anyone who saw suspicious activity at the time of the 3:36 p.m. fire is asked to call Ventura Police Cpl. Jeanne Boger at 339-4476.
