Council Will Consider How to Fill Open Seat

How the City Council plans to fill an upcoming vacancy on its board will top discussion at a meeting Thursday.
Councilman David M. Cheverton will step down from his post on Jan. 31--some 10 months before his term ends. The 39-year-old official announced his resignation earlier this month, citing increased job responsibilities at an Irvine marketing firm that has left him without sufficient time for his elected duties.
Now his council colleagues must decide whether to hold a special election to fill the seat or appoint a replacement. However a successor is chosen, the new council member would serve until the November election.
Officials will also discuss the city’s investment policy. The meeting starts at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall, 201 E. La Habra Blvd.
