Council Might Relax Pool Table Restrictions
- Share via
The City Council took preliminary steps Monday to allow restaurants to operate up to two pool tables without changing zoning laws.
Current city laws allow pool tables only in the most densely zoned areas. That would change under the new proposal, which would allow restaurants in more lightly zoned commercial areas to apply for a permit to keep up to two pool tables.
The city planning commission originally considered changing zoning around the Shorehouse Cafe, the restaurant that asked for permission to install pool tables, but members feared changing zoning might one day allow for a larger business, such as a shopping center, to pop up near a residential area. They decided to ask the city staff to rewrite the existing code instead.
The council voted 4 to 0 on Monday to schedule a public hearing on the measure.
