Birmingham 76, San Pedro 65--Stanley Fletcher scored 29 points, including 15 in the third quarter, to lift the Braves to victory in a 3-A semifinal game at Cal State Los Angeles.
“He was awesome,” Birmingham Coach Al Bennett said of the 6-foot-3 Fletcher, whose big third quarter helped the Braves open a 10-point lead.
Birmingham will play San Fernando Valley rival Sylmar for the 3-A title next Saturday.
The Braves (18-9) had some nervous moments, particularly when Emmanuel Evans was forced to the bench after picking up his fourth foul with 5:49 left in the third quarter. Birmingham had taken a 41-29 lead behind a zone defense that frustrated San Pedro three-point specialist Allen Kordich.
Kordich led San Pedro (9-19) with 27 points.
