SEASON AT A GLANCE: Despite barely pitching last season, the senior right-hander has emerged as the ace of the staff, compiling a 4-1 record with a 2.41 earned run average. Cassel, who in the fall signed with Loyola Marymount, is also the team’s top hitter, batting .525 with three home runs, six doubles and 28 runs batted in.

WEEK AT A GLANCE: Cassel pitched a complete game and hit a grand slam to lead the Golden Cougars to an 11-8 victory over Chatsworth, giving the then-No. 1-ranked Chancellors their first loss. Cassel had a two-run double in a 14-4 loss to Chatsworth the next day and had a three-run home run and drove in five runs in an 11-1 victory over Poly. Cassel finished the week with 12 runs batted in.
