Headed for Troy: Jacob Rogers, a 6-foot-6, 235-pound junior tight end from Oxnard High, has committed to USC even though he can’t sign until February 1999.

New Matador: Pierce College setter Melena Zapata has accepted a scholarship to Cal State Northridge. She is the Brahmas’ career leader with 1,320 assists.
SWIMMING
Quance fourth: Former Granada Hills High standout Kristine Quance placed fourth in the 200-meter individual medley Sunday at the national swimming championships in Minneapolis.
Quance, who graduated from USC in 1997, finished in 2:17.53. Carly Geehr, 13, of La Canada, finished seventh.
