NEWPORT BEACH — An unidentified man died Saturday after he was struck by a car as he crossed West Balboa Boulevard, police said.
The man, who authorities were unable to immediately identify, is believed to be 30 to 40 years old. He was in-line skating about 10 a.m. when he was struck at the 28th Street intersection, Newport Beach Police Sgt. Fred Heinecke said.
The man was taken to Western Medical Center-Santa Ana, where he died of head injuries.
Investigators detained a 17-year-old driver for questioning and then released her to a guardian, Heinecke said. The teenager, whose name was not released because of her age, was not injured.
