School’s Air Conditioning Blamed for Leaky Roof

An air-conditioning malfunction--and not Thursday’s rain--was to blame for a leaky roof at an elementary school that left four classrooms wet and forced the district to give students today off while repairs are made, officials said.

The roof leaked around air-conditioning systems at New Temple Elementary School that had recently been worked on by a contractor, said Valle Lindo Supt. Mary Louise LaBrucherie.

“Little puddles got on the desks,” she said. “We had to move the children out into other rooms. We are going to resume school Monday. We told students to stay home for the day [Friday].”

School board members have called a closed session today to discuss the potential for litigation against the contractor, she said.
