Support for Foster Families

Several groups in Orange County support foster families, from offering free child care to new birthday gifts. These three serve all licensed foster homes:
* Advance Resources for Foster Kids, (714) 475-1322. Offers mentoring and tutoring opportunities; a monthly Saturday Fun Day that treats the children to one-on-one activities; plus picnics and other events throughout the year. Monday Night Respite is a Latino foster-parent support group.
* Orangewood Children’s Foundation, (714) 636-4781. Programs include peer counseling; short-term child care; business mentors; and life-skills training. The foundation also offers funds for special needs such as camp, sports programs and counseling; and college scholarships and living expenses for former foster children. * Orange County Foster Care Auxiliary, (714) 778-3383. Provides foster children with new gifts on their birthdays and graduations. Operates a thrift store, 611 S. Brookhurst St., Anaheim. (714) 778-1650.
