Sunny Hills’ Porter Atones for Fumble With Touchdowns

Sunny Hills tight end Guy Porter carried the ball twice, but they were for touchdowns of 63 and 76 yards in the second half, enabling the Lancers (1-0) to beat Baldwin Park Sierra Vista, 32-0, Friday at Buena Park High.

Porter’s touchdown runs made up for his fumble in the first quarter. The Dons were stopped on their opening drive and had to punt. Porter fumbled the punt, and Sierra Vista recovered at the Lancers’ 42.

The Dons (0-1) drove to Sunny Hills’ nine-yard line, but running back Eddie White fumbled and the Lancers recovered.

Sunny Hills’ first touchdown drive began at the Sierra Vista 43. It took five plays, all of them runs, to take the lead. Lancers’ running back Adam Rodriguez, who rushed for 99 yards in 12 carries, plunged in from the two for a 6-0 lead.

The Lancers’ next drive began at the Dons’ 44. An interference penalty moved the ball to the Dons’ 29. Two plays later, Kevin Haiola ran 15 yards to give Sunny Hills a 12-0 lead at the half.

The only bright spot for the Dons was White. He rushed for 90 yards in 24 carries. Sierra Vista threw the ball only four times completing none. The Dons managed 116 yards in total offense.
