DES MOINES, Iowa — It’s now seven out of seven septuplets breathing on their own. Little Nathan became the final McCaughey baby to be weaned off a ventilator, the hospital said Friday.
Nathan Roy, the smallest of the four boys at birth Nov. 19, was the last of the seven to be removed from the breathing machine and upgraded from serious to fair condition, the taped statement from Blank Children’s Hospital said.
He also joined his brothers and sisters Alexis, Joel, Brandon, Kelsey, Natalie and Kenneth in getting nourishment from a tiny tube leading through the nose instead of intravenously. None is able to suck.
