It Was as Easy as ABCD for Lakey

At the 1996 ABCD summer camp in Teaneck, N.J., one of the two a summer camps that invites elite high school basketball players, Greg Lakey, a virtual unknown, distinguished himself and was selected as one of the camp’s top 20 seniors-to-be.
The Lynwood High standout showed he could rebound, shoot and score in the post, although he was rail thin at the time. Now a USC freshman, Lakey is in the starting lineup at power forward.
“I had a good time at the ABCD camp,” said Lakey, who is still no beef trust at 6 feet 8 and 200 pounds. “It helped me get ready for playing at this level, so it was a really good experience.”

Update--USC Coach Henry Bibby has said that finding capable scorers is essential; so is finding a capable rebounder among his undersized frontcourt players. Shannon Swillis, who sat out last season because of a broken foot, looks as if he’s ready to assume the role. In four games, Swillis is leading the team with 27 rebounds, averaging 6.8 rebounds a game.
