Suspect in ’95 Shooting Held

TIMES STAFF WRITER

Tustin police have arrested a Pomona resident who they say was the driver in a 1995 drive-by shooting that killed a 25-year-old Tustin man. Hugo Ambriz was killed in a garage in the 16000 block of Pasadena Avenue after someone fired at him from the passenger window of a full-size pickup truck, police said. Officers identified the suspected shooter as Jose Trinidad Garcia Ramos, 30, of Tustin, who they believe has fled to Mexico, police said.

In October, detectives got word Ramos might be in Las Vegas. Officers couldn’t find him, but they gained information there identifying Jose Dominguez Barrera as the suspected driver in the shooting, police said. Officers found Barrera in Pomona on Sunday and arrested him on suspicion of accessory to murder.

Barrera remains at large, and anyone with information about his whereabouts is asked to call Tustin Police Investigator Tom Tarpley at (714) 573-3247.
