2 Sentenced to 15-Year Terms in Slaying of Youth

Two Long Beach men were sentenced Tuesday to 15 years to life in prison for the execution-style slaying of a 16-year-old high school student in the 1992 Ace of Spades murder case.
Kenneth German, 24, was convicted of conspiracy and second-degree murder in the death of Alexander Giraldo, a student at Long Beach Polytechnic High School who was killed by members of a secret paramilitary gang called the Ace of Spades.
The second defendant, Michael McDonald, 22, a classmate of Giraldo, also was convicted of second-degree murder in his second trial for the slaying.
Long Beach Superior Court Judge Bradford Andrews sentenced the pair after denying them a new trial.
Both men denied responsibility for Giraldo’s murder and neither showed remorse, according to a probation report.
“Both appear seemingly void of outward feelings or emotions,” probation officer Will Manson said in his report to the court.
