Sheriff’s Department Request to Dismiss Parents’ Defamation Suit Is Rejected

SANTA ANA — A judge rejected a Sheriff’s Department request Monday to dismiss a lawsuit alleging the agency defamed the parents of a 2-year-old by naming them as suspects in his death.
The body of C.T. Turner was found in a ravine near his Mission Viejo home in August 1996 after a massive search. Detectives questioned his parents, Edith and Feilong Wu, and searched their home but never charged the couple.
In their suit, the couple said investigators and department officials directly and indirectly labeled them as suspects in the child’s death. They also contend their civil rights were violated and that detectives ignored other leads.
A ruling is pending on a motion to force the department to release documents in the case.
