With nearly 50 players from Southern California, Washington State is allowing the locals to spend Christmas with their families instead of at the team hotel.
For the others, there was a Christmas Eve gathering at the team’s Santa Monica hotel and there will be a Christmas brunch today.
It won’t be quite the same as Christmases past, however.
“There will be a real Santa Claus,” said Coach Mike Price, who in the past has taken the big man’s responsibility himself. “I got caught a couple of years ago, changing in the restroom. By one of the trainer’s kids.
“It crushed him. ‘Coach Price is Santa Claus!’ ”
