With the duo Eric B. & Rakim in the mid-’80s, Long Island rapper Rakim became a formative figure in the hip-hop movement. His new album, “The 18th Letter,” breaks a four-year silence with a potent reminder of his rhyming skill. Rakim shares the bill at the House of Blues with the Cypress Hill spin-off the Psycho Realm.
