Poli-Dixon Has Tutors on Hand

Brian Poli-Dixon has a group of tutors and spent much of Wednesday’s practice at UCLA with Eric Scott whispering in his ear.
The subject is pass routes, and Poli-Dixon, a freshman, understands they are a bit more complicated than the ones he ran in high school in Arizona.
“We had some of the same names for routes, but they were different routes,” Poli-Dixon said. “I’m having to learn the new ones.”
And concentrate on catching the ball, something that bedeviled Bruin receivers a year ago when they were learning a new offense. Catching the ball, ordinarily old hat, tended to be secondary in their minds, resulting in dropped balls.
Scott, a senior, along with other veteran receivers more or less have the routes down, making it easier to concentrate on catching the ball.

Coach Bob Toledo, on the possibility of UCLA’s game Saturday at Washington State being a shootout: “I don’t know. Every time I expect a shootout, it’s a defensive game. But I’m a fan. I like shootouts. I just want us to have the 48 points and Washington State to have the 46.”

Backup quarterback Drew Bennett, a redshirt freshman, has been removed from walk-on status, receiving a scholarship on his 19th birthday, Tuesday. . . . Receiver Danny Farmer experienced some swelling in his knee but is expected to be sound for Saturday’s game.
